EAST FRIESIAN SHEEP

EAST FRIESIAN SHEEP

The East Friesian is first and foremost a dairy sheep, being the most productive milk-maker of any domestic sheep breed.

The breed is a relative newcomer to the United States, being first imported from Canadian stock in 1994 for sheep dairy operations. The sheep breed itself originated in Germany alongside another productive milker, the famed black-and-white Holstein cow.

While most sheep raisers have milk on the mind, the East Friesian can produce some wonderful wool at the same time. They come in white and dark brown varieties, with the springy and medium feeling wool serving as a great binder in fiber blends.

Our East Friesian wool is sourced from a Texas dairy that raises the sheep for cheese.
